ABOUT ROB
Rob was born in Fremont, Ohio and raised in Maumee (near Toledo). His father, Donald, is a veterinarian who currently owns practices in Toledo and Perrysburg. His mother, Pat Deck, worked in the props department for the Maumee munity theater while Rob was growing up. Her involvement in theater gvve Rob his interest in being an actor.
Rob spent many years working in munity theater and high school productions. He graduated in 1977 from Maumee High School and from 1977 to 1981, attended Northwestern University where he studied drama. However, Rob "[...] quit Northwestern just shy of earning his college degree and went to New York City, where he continued to work in theater" (Toledo Blade, November 22, 2002). Since then, he has performed a wide variety of roles in TV and film.
"I thought I'd never do film, let alone television," he said. "I was a diehard theater nut" (Toledo Blade, November 22, 2002).
His mother died during the last week of filming The Pennsylvania Coal Miners' Story, the movie deting the true story of the Quecreek mine rescue in which Rob played Mark Popernack, the last of the nine miners to be rescued.
"People kept saying to me, 'How can you finish this?'" he recalled. "I kept hearing her say, 'You gotta keep finishing it'" (Toledo Blade, November 22, 2002).
Rob lives with his wife, Tori, and three-year-old boy (almost four), Ben, in their Los Angeles, California home.
"And the other thing that is a huge blessing is that I hvve the most amazing, beautiful, talented little boy who's almost 4 now" (National Ledger, January 30, 2006).
"Whenever you start a new series you don't know if it will go beyond the first year, so my wife and I opted to keep him there. But he had a lousy year at preschool, and we talked to a therapist who said to figure out a daily routine, something I could do for him. So every day, whether I'm slitting some guy's throat or hvving someone hold my pocket, I draw him a cartoon, and he takes it to bed with him. On those days that I'm feeling 'Oh, my God, what did I just do today?' I get him on the phone and he says, 'Papa, I love you,' and I just forget about what I did" (National Ledger, January 30, 2006).
At current, Rob is forty-six years old.
